When we send our children off to school on the bus, we trust they will be safe and will be returned safely to us. Most often this is the case, but sometimes children’s lives are put at risk when there is an accident. Recently, there was an accident involving a Gloucester County school bus and two other vehicles at a Virginia intersection.
It is reported that 31 students were on the bus at the time of the accident. Thankfully, it was also reported that none of the students were injured. What is unnerving about incidents such as this is that due to another person driving, as well as other people on the road, we have no control when it comes to a bus accident and the well-being of our children.
This alarming event is currently under investigation, and who or what caused the accident is still yet to be determined. Had the accident been more serious, it could have led to children being severely injured or even killed.
Outside of the uncontrollable risks of negligent and reckless drivers sharing the road, we hope bus drivers would take proper caution while transporting our children safely. It is assumed the school is ensuring the safety of the vehicles as well. However, many things can contribute to an accident.
If your child is ever injured in a school bus accident, there are measures you can take to seek legal remedy. Determining causation is important, and you may be able to get financial compensation for your child’s medical expenses. If the accident is fatal, then you may get restitution for the death of your loved one as well as funeral expenses.
It is never a good thing to hear about a school bus accident. Acknowledging that a bus accident can happen and knowing your legal options if such an event occurs may help you mitigate your losses.
